Florence Clark Meredith was born on a farm near Elgin, Nebraska, on February 4, 1891. After graduating from high school, she went to Pomona College, where she graduated in 1913 with a B.A. in history. She got her teaching credential at Santa Barbara State Normal School of Manual Arts and Home Economics, student teaching under Pearl Chase. In 1923, she earned her master's degree from Columbia University. She returned to Santa Barbara to teach home economics at Santa Barbara State College. In 1942...
